MS Publisher Substitute, Probably Not

Downloaded this app because I have some Brochures I created in Publisher after hearing it would open them. It did open the .pub format, however, it did not keep the layout as created. It is a simple 4 page (front and back) landscape brochure. It was created as a booklet. I assume it is because of the inability to determine where the brochure begins with page 1.

Better off with the one from original website.

I keep getting the “The connection to the data source could not be established with this version” when running the database app with this from the App store. Your better off downloading LibreOffice from their own website directly.

Best opensource alternative

I like this product ^_^

Been using it for years!

This will make it easier to install and keep up with updates. Kudos!

Excellent Microsoft Office Replacement

I’ve used both the preview office and the 2011 office for mac. They are both terrible and they cost a fortune. Libre Office has been rock solid and often works better with more Microsoft Word and Excel Documents than the Official apps.!

Excellent Office Suite

I like this suite, better than Office 2010. Very easy and free. Strong Database format.

Useless Cant open files from finder

When you launch an Open office document from the Finder it simply opens the app and not the document. You have to manuall open the file within the App from the File Open selection. How could this basic feature go untested?

I concur: program does not open files from finder.

What the heck is this? I think most users would be better-served by uninstalling this app, and re-installing their older version of Libre Office. Most incredible of all is that they’ve been getting this feedback, yet the issue isn’t fixed.

Version 4.4.4.6 FIXED! Now open files from Finder

July 10, 2015 – Update to version 4.4.4.6 fixed the problem. Now you can open files in the app from the Finder. --------------------- I thought “Fulldecent” was just someone that didn’t know how to set a default app in OS X when they said that this version “cannot open files by double-clicking”. But they are correct. Even with the “LibreOffice Vanilla” app set as the defualt app for a given file extension/type, double-clicking on a related file will open the app but not the document. Right-clicking and selecting to open a file from the contextual menu has the same result. Otherwise, having a version of LibreOffice that gets updates applied via the Mac App Store is a GREAT idea. The version of LibreOffice downloaded from the official site doesn’t seem to support their own “app update” system. As a result, you need to download the entire app for each update. Functionally, this app seems to be identical to the version available directly from the LibreOffice website. Once the ability to open files directly from the Finder is restored, I will most likely switch to using this version of the app. Thanks!

Meh

On those rare occasions when it would actually open, it was a pretty good app. Unfortunately, I expect an app to open at least half the time and this one doesn’t.

Print orientation wrong

For some reason, the print orientation is incorrect. This worked fine with LibreOffice from its web site. Doing the exact same steps on both versions does not produce the same results. I started this app, typed in text, the clicked on the Print button. The mac print dialog opened: the portrait page showing on the left-hand side of the dialog shows the text running horizontally, whereas the Preview image of the portrait page in the middle shows the text running vertically. When the page is actually printed, the text runs vertically. I cannot figure out how to fix this. It works fine with the original LibreOffice.

Decent but not stellar

It does a pretty decent job at most tasks, and I feel that most users would be quite happy with it if their ecosystem was built entirely around it. Unfortunately, the importers from MS formats usually require manual editing to fix various formatting issues that are not converted properly. Additionally, the current version has a bad Info.plist that causes LibreOffice to claim ownership of many file types that it should be an alternate for (eg: MS Formats, Plain Text, etc). This causes such formats to be opened in LibreOffice even though antother editor would be more appropriate as owner. The UI does a decent enough job at trying to fit into OS X, but it still doesnt feel native.

Does the job

I just need a basic word processor and spreadsheet. why pay for office 360 when this is free and does everything i need it to.

Auto correction does not work

Auto correct feature does not work well in 10.11. For example when I type “->", it should show arrow key automatically. Sometime works sometimes not. Please fix this bug as soon as possible. It’s very annoying.

Good so far

I am excited that Libreoffice is finally in the app store… So far it seems okay. Glad to have something other than Microsoft Office to use.

Print orientation wrong - won’t print correctly

Since the El Capitan update (am I the only one who thinks it’s wreaked havoc on their Mac?), I’ve been unable to open many apps, including MS Word 2011. I’m grad student, and this has been just disastrous. I was thrilled to find LibreOffice Vanilla, and was able to open and edit my Word docs. Easy to use, and free! I was glad I’d finally be able to get away from Office. But then, I printed one… and it came out in landscape mode. I made sure that the orientation was set to Portrait, and printed again. Still landscape. I did some web research, and tried the “fixes” others had (put print settings and document in landscape, change port settings, etc.) - absolutely no luck. I can edit my docs at least - but this app is useless to me if I can’t print documents correctly. I’ve read many reviews and complaints online about this - I hope the developers are reading these! I would gladly pay $9.99 for the paid version, with extra features and support, if the free version worked correctly. But if even the basic functions of the free version don’t work properly, I’m certainly not going to take a chance on the paid one. If this were fixed, I’d definitely upgrade my rating.

A work around for printing only in landscape...

Try exporting directly to PDF file, then print that file. I am running OS X 10.11, and that worked for me.

I honestly prefer microsoft office

This does NOT work well with El Capitan. My Macbook keeps glitching with it. I’m actually going back to Yosemite as we speak until everyone gets their crap together because I can’t take anymore of these bugs. I’m tired of losing my papers for college.

Photo displaying, compatibility, selection/deletion concerns

On these newly found issues to me I would give 3 stars because many of the photos in my text documents can not be displayed properly, the docx files are not opennable to iPage, and the selection of text frequently includes photos adjacent to it since when I deleted text I always found my photos were disappeared. Hope there are solutions. BTW, I am using OS X El Capitan.

LibreOffice Vanilla 5.0.1.2

When you finish writing a word in Arabic and after pressing the space-bar to add new word to the sentence, the space moves the previous word to the left and once you start typing the new world the previous word will move back to its position. As you continue writing a complete sentence, some character disappears.
